On November 7th, the day of the 100th anniversary of the October Socialist Revolution, Sergei Eisenstein’s film “Battleship Potyomkin”(1925) was shown in the Königsberg Cathedral. The fourteenth-century cathedral houses a concert hall with several organs. Ekaterina created a unique soundtrack, improvising for an hour and a half. That was the twenty-seventh day after her beloved father, Alexander Andreyevich Melnikov, passed away. She says she could feel him leading her from one dramatic scene to another as she played and created. Regretfully, no recording of that improvisation was made. The audience was profoundly impressed, and many listeners said that the performance was so magnificent it seemed unreal. Photos by Yulia Alexeyeva.
